Identical twins Azra and Samantha were each bestowed with three first names at birth. Yes, three! Peverell is their third first name—not middle or last, but first. Alongside their other names (middle and last), they bear a total of five names. Phew! They share this special name as they do their identical DNA. And thus, Peverell Reads was born.
They grew up in a remote mountain area, nestled on a slope overlooking valleys and rivers cascading to the sea. The most anticipated entertainment of the day was the captivating sunsets that painted the sky. Shooting stars were often seen under the clear, sparkling heavens, along with planets and the enchanting Milky Way. They did not attend any formal schooling; nature served as their playground, and forests became their classrooms.
Born to two creative souls, Azra and Samantha found themselves inexorably drawn into the world of art—pardon the pun. Even before they could walk or talk, they expressed their creativity by scribbling on the walls of their home, that is, until they stumbled upon the discovery of paper.
They continue scribbling to this very day.
Azra is an artist, writer, and illustrator based in New Zealand. She collaborates on stories with her identical twin sister, Samantha. When their twin DNA unites, there's no limit to where their imagination takes them. Bringing their stories to life to share with the world has always been their childhood dream. In addition to her other roles, Azra is a mother to both a daughter and a son.
Azra, with the help of her twin, has illustrated three picture books in New Zealand, published through 'Little Island Press.' She also studied creative writing through NZWriters College.
Samantha is a versatile artist whose talents have taken her on many travels worldwide. She collaborates on stories with her identical twin sister, Azra, and is mostly the twin who sketches out the illustration ideas while Azra brings the lost words to life. They finish off and enhance each other's ideas making their twin team extraordinary when their powers combine. Samantha is also a mother to a son and a daughter.
Samantha has left her mark in many places she has ventured: from creating murals to designing unique living spaces, shops, and bars—anything that requires a touch of art and creativity. She has also had numerous arts and crafts exhibits, most of which she and her identical twin Azra have done together and is now designing Montessori educational children's toys.
